Detecting Audio Signal

I'm trying to determine if my Dish Receiver is on or off. There is video output on or off. I don't think there is audio...

Is there a device that would sense audio output that could be hooked up to some sort of relay?

You could see if the current draw on vs off is enough to use a current switch. Another way would be to look for a power on indicator light and use a photocell to detect when its on.

yeah, but without the INSTEON. I have a device that can detect open/closed circuits. Wonder why they didn't design the thing as a passthrough?

That's not Insteon-only. That's just a universal device that opens and closes a contact based on whether a signal is present or not. Hook it up to an input device that is appropriate for your home automation technology. You can clip off the male connector and wire to your device. Or get a female connector from RadioShack and wire it to your device. They sell it with and without the IOLinc.
