driveway gate

im going to be building a driveway gate, having a tough time finding the right controller for the application. im looking for a touch panel without getting into full automation that will have 2 camera view, door release, communication. part of the problem is finding one that will be ok at a 500' distance. id like to use rg59, but i dont think the distance will leave much of a good signal. nvt claims they can tranceive up to 2000'-skeptical.
any ideas would be appreciated :)
thanks, brian

NVT manuf's video baluns, which convert rg59 signal to UTP signal to achieve those distances. I would recommend using cat5 and video baluns. Make sure you have 120v power at the gate for camera power.

Use Cat5 for sure and your distance I have done with my basic baluns (the 4 in 1 and the mini tooless). Also worst case you can add an active reciever if you run into troubles so I wouldn't worry too much.

I would pull 4 Cat5s out there and consider medium range RFID to activate the gate similar to a pikepass/toll tag whatever. I am still learning about RFID so I can't be of a huge help but if you reply with interest I may be able to get someone in here who does know.

As mentioned if at all possible get HV power out there too, bury it somewhere else as 500' of RG59u or heck RG11u right next to HV will botch your picture.

Consider box cameras and housings so you can add lighting filters to control glare from the vehicle windows.

I am just going through the same process, my gate is a little closer at 110m (330ft)

I am going to use a Fermax intercom system with video. I think it can handle a second camera from memory. From all accounts, the 500ft distance is not a problem for the system. It has door release facility (which can be used with your gate controller to open it) and has a telephne interface so that you can also use your phone or divert to a mobile if you are not home (and subsequently open the door/gate from that phone)

At 500ft, you should run RG6 or RG11 (better).

I am planning the run fiber (Ethernet/Video/anything else) as I want some protection from lightning (not that it has been an issue here). I am also putting in a Barix Barionet for logic at the gate with driveway sensors on the in and out. The Whole project is quite fancy in comparison to a standard gate, but once fiinhsed will be the bees knees.
