Elk 800, Elk M1 and PC output... Which hook up method is best?

Using an Elk-800 external amp with an M1G and a PC:

To support the addition of more speakers (4-32 ohm and 2-8ohm) I'm considering adding an Elk-800 to my new M1G install. There seems to be two methods in hooking up an Elk-800. One uses the Output 1 and a voltage divider to bring voltages down to line values then inputs them into the Elk-800. Another, makes use of two of the non-labeled J7 pins.

It also interests me to use the same Elk speakers with my Premise install; this way I can send any text to speach message and won't be limited by the Elk's vocabulary.

It looks like both methods rely on switching a relay when the PC needs to use the speakers, but only if the Elk is not using them. Using the J7 jack looks to be the easiest and most straight forward, but which is the best?
