Elk 983 and Uplink

Just bought uplink 2500. It requires 12VDC. I read that there is also an ELK983 that can be used to power it but is it necessary? I have plenty of 12VDC output on ElkM1 board.

Please advise.

Thanks.

It's necessary. Either the 983 or similarly rated supply is needed.

The 2500 can draw up to 2A briefly upon transmit, which would kick off the M1's PTC, most likely. The M1 is capable of 1A.

Thanks Del, I just noticed that 2A in the manual too...

Also, Del, is there a good recommendation on the transformer for Elk 983?

Update:

Just bought
Elk 983,
Elk1280 (8ah battery),
ELK TRG1640 transformer.

I suppose these are all I need. Please let me know if I missed anything.

I know Del has recommended to me possibly adding on a low battery cutoff switch. The power supply board that comes with the 983 does not have one built in, so if the unit runs long enough on battery it can eventually bring the battery down so low that it wont be able to recharge again.

The low battery cutoff board prevents that.

Where can I get the low battery cutoff board? Thanks.
