Elk and contacts

Hi,

Simple question I hope. I have a ELK M1G on a UPS truck that I'll get Tuesday (Missed the delivery today and they are close on the WE plus it's a long week-end

I was planing to play with the system over the week-end but I no longer have that luxury. Next week I'll need to connect 23 contacts (door and windows) all individually home run to the panel location. I have 2200 ohm EOLR on each run. Hopefully It was not a mistake to put EOLR on each run but they are there now. If I have to remove them I'll do.

From the base ELK-M1GSYS4S what add on board do I need to connect all these contacts to the system?

I'm also sing up for ELK webinar "ELK M1 Basic Training" on September 9 and "Using the M1 to control Pulseworx UPB Lighting" on September 16.

I'd like to get started before I get the webinar.

Thanks for you valuable inputs.

The M1 itself has 16 zone connections. The ElkM1XIN board will add 16 more input zones.

For just hooking up zones as wuench said you'll need another zone expander. Because you have EOL resistors on each run you can't daisy chain any (it's better to have individual anyways if you don't mind extra zones needed).

What else did you buy with it? You need an XEP for ethernet; XSP's and CIM's for lighting; etc. And a DBH is nice to have for initial install to simplify hooking things to the databus.

If you're really anxious, you may be able to contact UPS and pick it up tomorrow - many locations are open because of saturday deliveries - but only early in the morning.

If this were me, I would get a multimeter and check out the wiring before connecting it to a panel. Get a multimeter and place it on ohms, connect the leads to a zone and it should read the value of your resistor. Open the window/door and it should read "OPEN". Might think about labeling that cable as well while your doing this! B)

Make sure NOT to touch the lead ends or wiring with your fingers (use jumper clips or hold the leads with via their handles) as that can influence resistance readings.

Wuench - Thanks I'll add the ElkM1XIN to my next order.

Here's what I've ordered: ( I'm ready to order anything I'm missing )
ELK-M1GSYS4S - Elk M1 Gold Alarm System Kit with Slim Keypad
ELK-M1BBK2 - Elk Flush Mount Kit for M1KP2
ELK-M1PCSPIM - Elk UPB Interface
SA-UMC-USB-W - Simply Automated UPB Computer Interface USB CIM
SA-US11-40-W - Simply Automated UPB Wall Switch/Dimmer/Transmitter White Rocker
SA-USR-1-40A-W - Simply Automated UPB Remote Switch For 3/4 Way White Rocker
SA-ZPCI-B - Simply Automated Breaker Panel Inverting Phase Coupler

So base on previous post I'll also need (There is no cutting corners and I want a clean install):
ELK-M1XSP - Elk M1 Series Lighting Expander & Serial / Thermostat Interface
ELK-M1XEP - Elk M1 Series Ethernet Interface
ELK-M1DBH - Elk M1 Data Bus Hub
ELK-M1XIN - Elk M1 Input Expander

If it make any difference I have these wired in my first room.
SPY4 - Visonic Spy 4 PIR Motion Detector Curtain (Right outside doors in the hallway)
0-1111-0 - Visonic DISC Ceiling Mount 360 Degree PIR Motion Detector
VIP130-2 - Flair Surface Mount Contact 1 1/3 Inch With Tabs - White (Casement Windows)
VIP94-2 - Flair Recessed Stubby Contact 3/8 Inch White (All doors including closets)
I also have pre-wired for Lutron Sivoia QS at every windows for a later stage of the project.

Good to know I'll do that for sure before connecting contact to the ELK.
