Elk and Homelogic

I am going to have an Elk panel and hook this to a Homelogic system. I want to be able to program the elk with software over my LAN. The problem I see is that Homelogic ties into the Elk from the main serial port and so does the module to connect Elk into the LAN. Is there away around the problem or do you have to hook up the internet module to program then disconnect to hook back up to the Homelogic system.
Thanks,
Chad

Most systems have the option to connect to the Elk either by direct serial connection OR over the network if the Elk LAN module is in place. Does HomeLogic not let you connect to the
Elk M1 via LAN connection?

According to Elks website, Homelogic connects to the main serial port. I have not been able to find any info on if I can connect Homelogic over a LAN. I can't call tech support because I am only a consumer and not a dealer. My dealer hasn't done the training for Homelogic yet, so he doesn't know at this time.
Thanks,

I am not sure if Homelogic has an ethernet connection driver for the M1. If not you can use the M1XEP Ethernet port connected to the M1 and an IP232 Serial to Ethernet port which connects to the Homelogic. The IP232 can be set for a client and stay connected to the M1 always, passing data back and forth just like it is hard connected to the RS-232 port on the M1. When ELKRP connects to the M1, the socket connection to the Homelogic will be suspended until ELKRP disconnects and the connection to the Homelogic will continue. If the IP232 connection to the M1 is lost, it will automatically reconnect.

Thanks for the answer. I always like to know most of the details so I can have an intelligent conversation with the installer.

Tried this. It didn't work at first. Then it did. Then it didn't.

Should then IP232 connect to the M1 using the secure port or the unsecure port?
