Elk audio distribution ideas

My goal, however, is to use the multizone audio system that will already be in place once installed. I guess for total reliability I will need to put the amp(s) on a UPS so that I can still get announcements if the power ever goes down. The only problem with this method that I can foresee is that I will not get announcements while music is playing unless I set something up to automatically change the input of the amp(s) when there is a voice announcement somehow.

You should seek some input from people who have done what you are trying. I have read reports of problems like:

clicking noises when sources are changed.

the annoyance of having music interrupted frequently.

delays that are just long enough to make the announcements less useful.

Just some thoughts!

All valid concerns, but do you find that you can still hear your announcements while you are playing music over the Nuvo system?

Yes, we still hear them, and the Elk volume is turned down to like 2 or 3 out of max 7.

I'm not saying ditch the Nuvo idea - that is exactly what I had planned until I read some negative things about the method. If you run the wire for separate Elk speakers, you can still use the Nuvo if you want.

The wife LOVES the Elk voice announcements (the 2 year old has been busted by it several times, opening doors he should not be). So it is on all the time. There is no way I could handle football games, music, etc being interrupted as often as the Elk fires off an announcement.

Search some old threads on this. I believe IVB struggled with this same issue. . .
