My recommendation is to find a licensed security, fire alarm(hard to find commerical certifications along with security) and low voltage contractors in the area. Then figure out which of them are engineers, computer scientists, fast learners, etc. For a person with a strong engineering or computer background learning the elk will only take a few hours. Of course there are still some headaches due to things they don't know, research they have to do, etc. But it is an option if you are OK with a break-in period. Often they will not charge you extra for learning a new platform, better for their future business.
