Hi Spanky,

Does it have a microphone?

Knowing my luck you will say yes! I have just imported 3 Russound ComPoint ISSP intercom speakers and currently modifying them with the ELK-M1TWM two way microphone. Bit of an excercise but doable.

Don't see a two mic on the phone is there only the one version?

Regards,

Fleetz
Spanky,

I will save you answering this. Just noticed on the photo that shows the rear of the speaker a mounting position for the ELK-M1TWM.

Bugger......for the sake of two weeks would have had the perfect solution and three less grey hairs

Cheers and beers.....Fleetz
1. Is there no feedback problems if you mount the mic right next to the speaker?

2. What kind of cabling are you guys using for the microphone?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

I can't tell you yet about the feedback and yes it was something I was concerned about two. There is more physical separation from mic to spkr on the ELK ones. I also will have to remove the mic from the PCB so I can mount the mic to the front of the Russound ISSP spkr. It will probably only need 50mm (2") of mini shielded cable so I can physically mount the preamp board somewhere.

Have not done this yet as I am like a one armed paper hanger in Bagdad at the moment doing more pressing things for the project. I will post the outcome when I moded one here.

Looking at the photos that Electron posted I would say the physical position of mic to spk compared to what I will be doing is too close to call. I am not expecting it be an issue.

As for the cabling I will be using Cat5e cable. I suspect ELK are using a differential input to the mic preamp and the common mode rejection that the twisted pair offer provides the necessaries for relatively clean and hum free audio. I again suspect that it has been optimised for twisted so don't use shielded as you get poorer performance. Perhap Spanky can confirm this.

Can anyone verify if this speaker, removed from the faceplate, will sit behind the KP2 keypad? Is this speaker a substitue for the SP102 which was supposed to be made for the KP2?

Sorry, I got behind on responding to this thread. If its not on the front page, left column, sometimes I miss it.

This is the same speaker that fits behind the KP2 keypad. It is rated at 12 watts at 8 ohms, but since it is 32 ohms you can put about 4 times the power into it.

It is a little lower in volume than the 8 ohm version, but it is still plenty loud for inside applications.

You can wire 8 of them in parallel on the M1, which looks like a 4 ohm load to the M1. No Problem!

This history of this speaker is that a version of it was made by Peerless Speaker and it was rated at 100 watts and used a liquid ferromagnet material for cooling. We really liked it and designed product around it. Then Peerless decided to stop making the speaker. Bummer! We had the speaker tooled in China with a standard speaker technology, so here it is.

It works great for the designed purpose of voice announcements and inside siren.

The speaker only version, without the plate will be available in the future, but not today. If you need a speaker only, just clip it out of the plastic front plate.

It fits a standard single gang electrical box.

In Australia, I understand you have a box that it will fit also, but that is here say at this point.

We are finishing the design on a 3 zone two way voice interface that will use this speaker. Each zone has a separate amp and volume control. There is a place on the back of the speaker for a new mic design. The current two way voice mic does not fit there and it go into a single gang box.

I wanted to make sure I understood this: So are you saying this will be a sort of intercom addition for the elk, or just an extension of the two away remote listen in (which I guess would be like a 3 zone intercom, just no call button?).
