Elk/ISY/Insteon question

Hello all.

Quick question I was not able to find the answer to in the forums:

I have an Insteon inlinelinc controlling some book shelf lighting. That is linked to a key on a KeypadLinc (not the main load of course).

I have the lights go on via Elk Rules at night. The Insteon lighting is controlled within the Elk via the ISY-99. When the rules are fired I turn the lights on and send a signal to turn on the keypad light as well.

My issue is that sending a signal to the keypad buttons turns on the main load light. If I change the configuration for it to be mutually exclusive (the main load button) then it wont turn on the main load but no keypad lights are lit.

Any ideas on what I might be missing so I can use an Elk Rule to trigger the shelf light directly and have the right keypad light be lit as well (to mark that the light is on) would be greatly appreciated.

I did verify the link between the inlinelinc and the keypad button again before posting and retested (no change).

Thanks!

Create a scene in the ISY with the load and the KPL button. Then have the Elk turn on that scene.

Did you create these links with the ISY? If so, then you already have a scene created. If not, then you should. Once done, it sounds like the advice of WayneW would work:

Create a scene in the ISY with the load and the KPL button. Then have the Elk turn on that scene.

Thank you all. This makes sense and is exactly what I was missing. I was trying to control each unit individually. This is cleaner and actually works.

Glad to take one more item off the list!
