Elk Keypad - question regarding line one of the display.

I think there are a number of us using the Elk for home automation purposes and the Elk Keypads are handy as a user interface and display. Is there any possibility of providing a way to turn off the default display of "Ready To Arm" and allowing access to the first line of the display via rules, etc. like the second line is now? I would assume that the display is not absolutely required for alarm data since a keypad is now offered without a display. It sure would be nice to have the option of using the first line of the display for other purposes. This would make the Keypad more flexable. If there are others that would be interested in this would you please chime in with your thoughts?

The top line on the M1KP is tightly controlled by the security process engine. The display of data is part of the UL listing requirements.

To be very honest, it would be a major software change, and a major UL expense. As we move forward into new developments would a better opportunity to add this kind of feature.

I wonder if there would be a market for a non-UL "automation" keypad that could sit on the Elk bus? Perhaps something similiar to the RCS KPG8 where the LCD display could provide "soft" button labels in addition to providing a more extensive data display for HA applications. I think it would have a nice niche if it was priced a little above a regular security keypad but still far below the price of a touch screen. (You could put security keypads near the doors, touch screens in the kitchen, media room, and master bedroom, and these mid-priced units in secondary rooms like workshop, home office, second TV room, etc.)
