ELK M1 and ISY

I was reading the other thread on a gentleman's question regarding pairing the ISY with the ELK.  Right now I have a M1G with XEP that I'm using with the EK Pro app for my iphone.  I don't feel incredibly limited except by the vocabulary of the M1 and possibly more intelligent rules.  
 
I've seen where several folks here are saying adding the ISY (even if you dont plan in Insteon control ever) is a welcome addition.  My disadvantage is I don't fully understand why.
 
Can someone enlighten me on just how the ISY augments the ELK?  Thanks so much!

The Elk has limited messaging capability. The Elk notoriously gets DST wrong.

You can monitor and control the Elk from the ISY which means there is a single REST API for lighting and Elk control.

I was able to get Siri to accept voice commands to control lighting and security. Search this forum for my other posts.
