Elk M1 Gold and ISY 994i

I am using a ISY 994i to control my insteon gear and have the ELK for security.  I am also using the ELK M1 to open and close my garage door when I press a function key on a keypad or remote.  The way I did this was by wiring one of the garage remotes to one of the ELK's contacts.  It works fine but I have to remove the panel when I need to change batteries.

I want to use a insteon garage door kit but I want to continue to have the ability to use the security keypads and remotes to open and close the garage door.  I also have the ELK speaking the status of the garage after a certain time of night.

Will the ISY ELK module allow this type of two way communication?

Alternatively, I am willing to plug a Insteon modem directly to the ELK but I already have the network adaptor and wireless unit in the ELK.  Can I also use the Insteon?

Yes.  You can use the Insteon gear / isy-994i to do what you want.

You will need the ELK module for the ISY-99.  That will give the ISY-994i full access to all inputs / outputs / arm / disarm / etc. for the ELK.

Thanks for the reply.  I currently use eKeypad on my iphone for remote arm disarm and have the ELK set up to use a secure port.  I've read that I have to disable the secure port to use the isy module.  Will this make my ELK more vulnerable to the Internet?

You should not have to disable the secure port.

You will have to use the insecure port for the connection from ISY to ELK, but that communication is all INTERNAL to your LAN.

Newb question here. I have the M1G but no lighting control yet.
What's the best way to connect ELK + ISY994 + PLM? I am adding the m1XEP this week and would get elk module.
I see a serial and USB PLM. I need the serial version, yes?
The ISY connects to PLM via serial?
ELK connects to ISY via Ethernet? So I could connect these via LAN rather than a single direct connection?
