ELK M1 Sensors

All,

I have been reading and reading about wired sensors for the M1. I have dual panel windows that open from side to side and up & down. I like to have all wired sensors going to these windows, but rather not drill the window frames. This leads me to surface mount sensors. There are so many sensors out there and I want a good quality surface mount sensor for each window. What is a good & Elk M1 compatible sensor (small & slim) to purchase?

For windows that open up & down, where is the best location for these surface mount sensors? Up on top or at the bottom near the window sill?

I am new to alarm systems and do apologize ahead of time for these repetitive questions. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the process of installing the Tane Pill contacts. They were the smallest and nicest looking surface mount I could find. I'm installing them at the sill, but you may consider installing them a little higher and using 2 magnets if you want to allow venting.

All standard sensors are Elk compatible. It is a simple open/closed contact. I drilled all of my windows as I didn't want even the least ugly of surface mount ones, so I can't really comment on which surface mount is the best.

I use these

with the NX-650 wireless sensors. Never had a single false trigger. I used some tiny 2 conductor wire to remotely locate the sensors as much out of site as I could

I've been using Honeywell PAL-T's for surface contacts. Slightly larger, but has no visible screw terminals, multiple wire entry points and space for an EOLR, albeit tight.

Recessed I use either a 944 TRE, a 944 TSPM a 947-75T or a 955PST, depending on application. Overheads are typically 958's, but I've used other manufacturers and the part # interchange.

I like being able to use a typical mini screwdriver compared to the micro-miniature ones that you have to use with GRI or GE, even Tane's.

I was looking at the PAL-T's and really like the idea. For the EOLR, where did you locate it? And how was it done?

Thanks for you help and advice.

There's room for a normal 1/4 watt resistor inside them. Tight, but do-able with a bit of solder and small piece of shrink. I'm typically using them with 22/2 jacketed solid, so part comes down to how you work with the cable itself and the wire entry point.

They're slightly bigger than some of the other surface contacts, like a 945T, a GRI 100 or 110T or GE 1138T, which is slightly larger than Tane's PILL, but the size is only truly relative when you're in a tight spot IMHO, because you're going to be seeing a contact irregardless.
