Elk Phone fault

Well it appears that Murphy has struck again. Several years ago, my Elk was hit by lightning. I shipped it off, and it came back good as new.

I was told that installing an ELK 930 telephone surge protector would prevent this from happening again. (it did not work!)

About 2 months ago, I came home from a vacation, and some storms had rolled through the area. Looks like lightning struck again. The display is showing a phone trouble fault. I can live with the phone not working, but the interface to my RCS t-stats also stopped working.

Does anyone know if these are related to the same chip on the Elk? Or should I start looking for other problems?

I dont think anything can prevent damage from a direct or near direct hit. It is just to much energy moving to fast. Make sure you do NOT have the earth ground on the ELK connected to ground as it was determined to actually perform better without it (you can check the latest manual)

But some protection is better than none and their phone line protection devices are well regarded in the industry.
