ELK-RP software control via ELK-M1XEP

Hello all,
 
I have my ELK-RP setup with the ELK-M1XEP placing it onto the network. I also have my interior lights all on UPB and I have the ELK UPB interface (not hooked up yet).
 
As a software developer I would like to write my own internal home webpage that I can login to and send commands to my ELK-RP to do various functions such as enable alarm, turn a lighting zone on / off, etc.
 
I tried searching the forums for somebody who has done this but I'm struggling to even think of the keywords to search for. Can somebody suggest a post or some documentation?
 
Do I just connect to a socket connection on my ELK-M1XEP and send some plain ascii text commands or ??

You will probably want to enable/connect over the non-secure port.  TCP 2101 under the M1XEP Settings.   And you need to enable all the G29-G42 Serial Port Transmit Options under Globals if you want the Elk to generate all events on that port.
