elk seizing speakers

I have an elk m1. I also have built in speakers in the ceiling. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the elk to seize the speaker lines?

You could use a DPDT relay and switch the output when needed if the ohm load on the house speakers are within elk's specs. If you search there are several posts here about interfacing alternate audio devices with the elk speaker output, like converting it to a line level and running it into an amp.

I also have built-in speakers in various rooms in my house attached to a music system.

In my bedroom I wanted the M1 to wake me up for alarms and for voice announcements like multiple wakeup announcements on certain days of the week.

Using a double throw, double pole relay wire the two speaker lines to the two common poles on the relays. Wire the music system to the normally closed poles on the relay. Wire the M1 output 1 to the normally open poles on the relay.

Write a Rule Whenever the audio amplifier turns on then turn on Output X. Whenever the audio amplifier turns off then turn off Output X.

Connect Output X to the double throw, double pole relay trigger input. The Elk-924 double throw, double pole relay has a low current input trigger.

When the M1 voice or alarm messages turn on, the speaker is switched from the music system to the M1 so you can hear the voice announcements.

Depending on your whole-house audio system, you may also be able to use the "paging" input. For example, the Niles ZR-6 has a paging input. The problem with the Niles, though, is there is a slight delay before the music is faded out and the "page" is played, so you need a delay at the beginning of each of your Elk voice announcements.
