Elk Two-Way Listen In

Hello all;

As always thank you advance for the assist...

I am considering incorporating the Elk Two-Way listen in feature to one of my installations. The goal is to allow for live two-way conversation when a alarm is triggered to confirm the event as well as allow for a child to check in on a parent if the motion sensor has not been tripped for over 12 hours. I'd first like to know if anyone has had any experience with the this module. Further, the combination speaker/microphone module looks terribly unattractive and I was
considering trying to figure out how to recess mount this into the wall. Any thoughts or alternative 4 wire combo-speaker/mike suggestion would be appreciated.

I am in the middle of a large install that I plan on using the listen in feature of the ELK. It will probably be late in the week before I am done with the install and can try it out.

I will try and remember to post my opinion on it when its up and running. Pulling wire in this particular house has been a challenge to say the least and I only have access nights and weekends.

I like the two-way listen in device ... the newer version is FAR superior to the older one... You can also page through those speakers with a special dial code. You will come accross a slight noise issue (see link) when using the phone line interface or listening in... can be solved with a separate power supply.

My only complaint with the unit is that if you select a zone that has a lot of noise (like a furnace room) the loud noise being picked up by the mic will prevent you from further touch tone control of the unit, apparently the receiver can't hear over the noise. I think you have to wait for it to timeout. That issue could be fixed in the firmware.

I bought all the stuff for it, but I have not hooked it all up yet. I can't recess/flush mount the speaker where I want to put it, so I had to get the big ugly one. At some point, I'm going to get s smaller speaker, take the mic out of the one I have, and build something that is smaller and less horrendous looking.

I find that the microphone from the M1TWS fits into the SP-12F, provided you don't need both mounting screws. So, I'm planning to retrofit an SP-12F + microphone where the M1TWS currently is installed. I can't justify re-purchasing the entire kit as a SP12-FS.
