Elk USB232 Serial Cable to Convert USB to RS-232

Works for me and all my Elk products, however it did not work for me with my Honeywell CIA modem, and vice versa, my Keyspan USB would not work with the Elk panel I tried it with.

Same is common for many manufacturers, they typically find a manufacturer whose product/drivers tend to play nice with their hardware and recommend/support that product, otherwise I would not have 4 or 5 USB to serial adapters sitting in my laptop bag for the hardware I install/support.

Agreed - any adapter works. I got mine at Best Buy years ago and used it for my M1 before I got my XEP. Worked fine.

I tried all types, including cardbus adapters, etc... Especially in the early days of Vista and 64-bit, and I was spending a lot of time in Cisco consoles. The one I finally found that has worked every time on every one of my systems is the Aluratek. I bought them for my whole staff and use several regularly (including two attached to my home automation machine) and literally they've worked every time. They're available at Fry's or on Amazon.
