ElkRP2 - Backup Question

Hey guys, I'm probably going to be rebuilding my main PC soon and wanted to get recommendations regarding the backup of RP2? Is there are particular file that I should backup? I'd prefer not to have to re-sync everything from the panel to RP2 software if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance!

Grab the DB file....you can export/copy that to removable media, reinstall, then grab the DB. It'll be every panel DB that you have in RP, not just a single panel's DB.

You will need to know any of the password protections and similar for when RP was first configured on the original machine/DB.

Pretty easy/straightforward.

I don't have RP on this machine otherwise I'd give you the exact path to look at.

If you have a single panel, it's just as easy to drag the config from the panel to RP....not much there.

To add a bit to this ... If you open RP and click file then click open database, you can view the current database path there by clicking in the "look in" field at the top.

Basically you need everything in that path ( The updates folder and the .MDB files)

As a side note, at Home, I actually have folder on my NAS that is the RP Database folder. I use the mapped network drive on several PC's to access the same DB.

Example:

X:\NASFolder\RP Database\ (Updates folder and MDB files)

Once you have them on the network you just have to change the location on the default in the File:Open Database dialog.

Thanks to you both for the information.

That's a good idea re: the location. I may investigate just moving the DB over to another partition or HDD all together, rather than having to put it back in the same location. This may be easier in the long run.

It depends really....

It's simple and easy to grab the DB and all the paths. I just looked at a sample machine and it's 3 files basically, and unless you have a pile of accounts or copies of your accounts, it'll take you longer to navigate and copy/paste than getting the DB or dragging it back in.

I have a bunch of laptops and desktops that run a script to write/sync to a main DB, but that's just me and not wanting to sync multiple DB's on various service machines.

For now, I just have the single system. Which I currently only manage from a single computer. However, I generally do a complete re-format every 18-24 months. That being the case, I figured it would be easier to have the file stored elsewhere, and just update the path, rather than having to place it in the default location, and remember to back it up each time... only to then have to put it back.

You could run it on a server and just get the share and path correct for your main machine....not really too much to it if you really want to get that far involved.
