People overthink EOLR's and what they actually accomplish. Really 3 state resistors are a law of diminishing returns compared to 4 state wiring, though it's hardly implemented on alarm panels.
EOLR's don't really complicate the troubleshooting unless there's a ground or bad splice. The problem is most don't troubleshoot the voltage and try to read the resistance to find the fault.
