Factory-resetting M1 & starting over from scratch

I'm almost done rewiring my alarm system. The new wiring configuration shares almost no wires with the original. Back when I first bought the house, I wasn't able to run wires between the first and second floor, and between the front and rear of the first floor, so I just hijacked the house's phone wires and (ab)used them as the Elk's control bus and speaker wires (using a M1XIN to provide zones for the sensors in the front of the house). Now that I have proper wires, the entire downstairs is connected directly to the M1, and the M1XIN is being moved upstairs (where I've never been able to have sensors due to limited wiring).

So... is there any easy way to just completely wipe the slate clean, clear out all of the M1's programming, and revirginize it back to its new state? I *do* have all the access codes.

As a matter of pure luck, the M1's 4-wire bus happens to be in exactly the same topology it was in originally... just with new and better wires. So, with a little luck, the system won't totally freak out and instantly sound the alarm when I power it back up later this week.

I have Elk-RP. As far as I know, it's the latest version.

What's the latest firmware available for the M1(-G) and M1XIN, and if I'm starting over from scratch, is there any reason why I would NOT want to upgrade to it (like features/support eliminated from a newer version for legal/licensing reasons, or to free up flash/ram for new features, that I might care about and want to keep)?

I think you could load up ELkRP, setup a new account, do the settings as you will, and send all.

I'm too lazy to tell you what the latest firmware is but go to http://www.elkproducts.com/m1_downloads.html to find out. I don't know why you wouldn't update.

:hesaid:

That's what I do - just create a new account from scratch, clear everything out, and send a new config over... then if you ever need to get back to the old stuff (rules, etc), that's all still in the old account.

Smart idea!

Ill note that if I ever need to

That's the way to go, also a smart way to avoid corrupt databases if you're doing a huge change to a system...lay in a blank template then install your normal program.

DEL, I'm trying to follow here...
By "normal program" do you mean a generic config you use? I'm trying to picture what you mean. I always backup/duplicate databases before making changes but don't follow how you would make large system changes with a "blank template"?
