Forgive me if I'm completely green on this subject - irrigation

I also use a Rain8Net w/ serial connection. I had my landscaper bring the wires into the basement and then we hooked up everything directly. Currently I'm using the standard version of McsSprinklers w/ plans of eventually transitioning to jkish's templates in CQC.

The limitations of MCSsprinklers is you can only run one program. I'd like to water the lawn just a few days a week, but my vegetable garden daily. Right now I have to manually turn on the garden one on days not programmed. I'm pretty sure Jkish's will allow multiple programs. I needed the standard version to allow me to control two main valves/pumps (I have one for the city water zones, and one to activate the well pump)

mcsSprinklers is the most flexible irrigation control you will find. With the standard version you can setup up to 8 programs where each can have schedules for up to 24 control periods during each day. While timed control is very accomodating, the value of using mcsSprinklers over other control methods and use of Rain8Net/mcsSprinklers in general is that the scheduling can be based upon environmental conditions (i.e. weather) so you only use water when the soil has become sufficiently dry that water is needed.

To run the garden daily a contrrol area should be defined that covers the valves for the garden. To run the lawn a few days a week a control area should be defined thata covers the valves for the lawn. You can define 8 different control areas in this manner. Think of it as having 8 control boxes that are linked together where each control box has its own schedule, but they communicate with each other so too many will not be active at the same time to assure water pressue is maintained.

Thanks for clarifying. I'll give it a look this weekend. This can help me procrastinate with CQC even more
