GE ESL 350 smoke chambers

I'm getting two of my smokes now that indicate it's time to change the smoke chamber (via fast flashing lights). It's not even been a year that I've had these installed....do these have to be replaced that often?

I don't know how much those things costs, but if they cost more than the batteries, then this is an upkeep cost I'm not sure I like.

Time to contact setnet about replacements, I guess.

Hmmmm...I have the same question, and one of mine is already flashing, and it it only 4 months old!

I took it down, blew it out with compressed air, and put it back up again. The led went back to normal for a couple of days, then started flashing quickly again, indicating to replace the chamber.

Well, a quick search online found them at about $13/10pack, so it's not outrageous....but the part I'll hate the most is unplugging the plug from the back of the thing. I've seen very loose wires and contacts (including one broken one) from that area, so I don't believe they were meant for a lot of use.

Any idea on the shelf life of the chambers? I need 1, but would like to save the rest for down the road. Where did you find them for that price?

Sace...this might be somewhat pertinent. I was testing my relays and wiring this weekend for the smokes, and I pressed the button on the smoke that was flashing quick ("needs smoke chamber replacement"). It DID NOT GO OFF. I tried the other smoke I had too....same thing. Pressing the test button would NOT make the smoke go off.

Now, I didn't try it with actual smoke to see if the smoke would alarm or not....but I found that just a tad disturbing that I couldn't make the smoke go off via the test button. There's no other notice that something might be wrong than the quick flashing light...a bit of a concern, since 3 of my smokes are in the basement where I don't go all that often.

Anyway, I today ordered the 10pack of chambers from setnet. Put that off for too long....especially if it really does mean a non-working smoke!

Good info. I will try to test mine tonight when I get home. I do know that it works, as it is located in a hallway outside of the kitchen...and let's just say that my wife had a bit of an issue in there a couple of weeks ago.

That smoke did go off, as did all of the others in the house. The kids came running downstairs with their hands on their ears, crying.

So, in case you were wondering, these things are LOUD. :(

Beez, could you PM or post the part number for these on Setnet. TIA.

Hmm...I called Anthony Stewart to order, because it wasn't listed on their website (neither were the ESL350's I ordered from them), so I don't have a part number. If I get an email confirmation with it, then I'll post it. Otherwise, I'll get it when they arrive, I spose!

Ya, I was able to test the other alarms this weekend, with the kids outside and my Mom with a pair of ear protectors on her head. It's GOOD they're loud! Makes the TTS saying which alarm is going off kinda trivial...but still! At least it gives me an email indicator too, in case I'm not at home.
