Does disconnecting the serial expander from the PLC and leaving the PLC plugged in stop the lights from coming on?

I would like to follow up on this S3 jumper. I have yet to go back to vacation house to investigate but I had various lights turning on by themselves after moving S3 jumper to on position. I had also moved it to off for a day or two then back to on before these occurences happened. I Had PLC unplugged until I return in Dec. to investigate. Could there be something related to moving the S3 jumper that could cause this? Is there any checks you would recommend to do?
