I'm considering the purchase of an omni pro II from a friend. It is the model with 3 serial ports and had a 2.11 firmware chip in it. Will I need to send it away to get it upgraded to 3+ or can I simply do this with PC access? If I do need to send it away - where do I send it?

Thanks

You don't need to send it away. The firmware chip can be replace. The new firmware chip runs about $45 to $50. You just pry the old one out with a screwdriver, and put the new one in. Its pretty easy if you are careful. The newer models with 5 serial ports can be upgraded with PC Access, but not yours.

can I then upgrade via PCaccess after that?

The older OmniPro II boards (3 serial ports) are only updatable via firmware chips.

The newer OmniPro II boards (5 serial ports)  have read writable flash updatable chips.

My older of two panels is of the type you are purchasing.  It's been fine for over 10 years.  No issues what so ever.

Thinking the last time I opened the HAI media can was some 4 years ago.
