HD DVR without subscription?

So far I haven't been a big fan of Windows Media Center, the new one may be different, I can't say, I haven't looked at it yet. With that said we've been promised PC cable cards for years now. many manufactures release dates have come and gone with last minute problems with one thing or another. I think I'll wait just a bit before order it. :D

For now I'm happily watching and recording with GBPRV.

With the proper HD equipment GBPVR does an amazing job as well.

Try Windows 7 Media Center and the upcoming Ceton Multi Stream Cable card tuner. Will support 4 tuners streams you can DVR and time shift. Ceton tuner will be avaible Mar 31 this year:

I am waiting for the release of this product and intend to add this to my Media Center setup.

My older lifetime subbed Tivo's are still working fine with OTA and the non HD/unencrypted broadcasts on cable. The power supply went out on one of the boxes a couple of weeks ago. The "legacy" DirectTivo box continues to work fine also. It was a 10 minute fix on the SA Tivo.

Some cable companies in Florida are starting to sell "packages" which include HD and a cable box is not required such that you can connect directly to HD LCD TV's.

I've also noticed a trend of a push by Comcast such that the end client never owns the equipment and continues to just pay a monthly sub for the box.

I have a friend that had Comcast / Tivo and waited 6 months for a cable card to utilize his setup.
