Hello group I am so new at this and would love to have so direction on the subject of home automation. I have been told that the place to start would be with my security system. I am about to purchase a two story home with 2700 sq ft, that already has an installed ADT security system. I like this to be the foundation to add on to it as money and time allow. I would like to know which controller would be the best, which protocols should I use, thanks to everyone once again.

hi dewframing,

Welcome to CocoonTech!

Do you plan on installing the system yourself, or contract it out? The HAI OmniPro II and ELK M1 are the popular choices, as they both support the popular home automation protocols, and can easily be expanded later on.

Welcome to the Cocoontech message board. A security system is a good place to start. You may want to check out which software packages interface with this system. I believe HomeSeer has a plugin that works with the newer ADT systems. It may be worth checking out the HomeSeer message board and ask about this. You may also want to switch out systems that a HA friendly if not. The DSC and ELK systems are good security systems.
