I am an OmniPro II owner with various dreams of home automation who mainly ends up experimenting with stuff - hardware and software. My last house was a Frankenstein creation of HAI, 2nd hand Crestron, Xantech, and an assortment of other equipment that I installed, programmed and played with just to see what I could do.
I've been in my current house 18 months and decided to stick with the OmniPro II and have essentially finished the security aspect of things. I spend a lot of time on software too. I wrote a Mac application for capturing FireWire video from set top boxes several years back, and recently finished a Mac application for controlling my OPII.
Now I am trying to decide whether to go HVAC, lighting, or automation (likely irrigation and basic security lighting, rather than full fledged lighting) next.
I'm a member of most of the other home automation and home theater forums I frequent and finally decided to take the time to register at CT rather than continue to lurk
