So I don't know if I came across wrong. This thread is still alive. I was trying to clarify my mistakes in the drawing. I would greatly appreciate more help in understanding how to setup UPB etc (as stated above).

I must be stupid because, as I recall, the images I saw didn't have arrows or labels. I'm unsure as to what you're asking in regards to dimmer placement in the room anyways. With UPB, it doesn't make a lick of difference where the dimmer is located as there is no line of sight issue to contend with.

In regards to the motorized shades question, i have indeed worked with them in the past. I have used the RS232 interface for Somfy and also used dry contact and RS232 products for DaLite and Draper screens. It seemed to me that you were asking if it can be done. The answer is yes. Via UPB or other.

Here is a link to the Web Mountain instruction manuals.

You'll need to understand how to install these switches/dimmers. This may help with your decision-making as to where you want to place them.

I've never used UPB, but this is where I would begin, after doing some searching here at cocoontech. Another UPB manufacturer you might consider would be Simply Automated - you might be able to find some comparisons here at CT.

Anthony has probably used both, and prob prefers Web Mountain, given his rec.

When it comes to your blackout curtains, I have quite a bit of experience fighting the battle of getting rid of light leaks etc. It's not an easy task, but it can be done. It takes some careful planning.

If you want specific help with that planning, I'd be happy to help however I can. I would suggest it's sort of a separate issue from the home automation, so I would recommend starting a separate thread on the issue rather than getting this one off the "automation" track.

My home theater is in a living room flooded with sunlight, and I get 100% total darkness when I push my "Theater Start" button.

I really appreciate the help/responses. I have already been reading some of the links provided to me (thanks Neurorad).

Deane Johnson, I would love to discuss possibilities of blacking out the sunlight and coming up with a solution that not only fits my goal but gets the WAF. Can I PM you? I would also enjoy discussing speaker possibilities if you don't mind. I know the blackout blinds are not home automation but I was wanting to automate the closing of a blackout curtain.

I just did a quick response because there is a lot of info to digest. I found a planning, installation and programming book on UPB installs. I did order the book but I wondered if anyone has any experience with the book and what you thought of it. It is called

(HCBOOK4) Home Controls UPB System Design & Programming Manual I purchased it from homecontrols.com
