Homerun Window Contacts?

I never use any CAT5 wiring for security devices, only for phone and proper CAT5 terminated devices. I would also suggest using a 22/2 or 22/4 stranded wire. Stranded wire has less potential to break and can be abused more than CAT5. (Not that I am pulling wire with 190LBS of body weight or anything).

I had the same issue - 50 windows in an existing residence. Most of my windows are in units of 3 or four, so I decided to use a combination of wireless/hardwire. I have the elk wireless unit, and using the GE 60-362-10-319.5 Standard crystal door/window sensor you can connect reed switches in series and connect them to the wireless sensor. You can purchase these on ebay for around $15, so once you have the elk wireless unit, you can do a group of 4 windows for around $20. Make sure you get the crystal version of the wireless sensor - the SAW version does not support the attachment od switches.

Well the bill for homerunning all the window contacts was $515.00

The total cost for all the LV work I had spec'd out is crazy.. Gonna have to make some decisions here about what to cut soon.

cut a non-LV wiring area that is doable post-construction. You'll never have an opportunity like this again, you'll regret cutting stuff.

Yep - What we had here was the "dream pre-wire" list. Which is coming in at 5% of the house value.. And it isn't the cheapest house in the world to start with.. Time to go with "how many pipe chases can you get me" :-)
