How to integrate 'Liftmaster' garage door..

[If the 30" height is better, why not put the beams there in the first place?

I would not be able to detect a child laying on the ground. The real purpose of the sensors is to protect children, not cars.

And I know this has been covered, but a reminder that you should never automate any type of motor or mechanical device when you can't see it operate.

Although I want to be able to control mine, I only want it to be manual. 99% of the time it'd be used if I forget to close the door. I have a camera in the garage so I could easily view the camera and know if I could close the garage or not.

That said, I'd still like to have another sensor on it to pick up a car. The other day I had my SUV with the wheels 'straddling' the beam. I hit the wrong garage button since I was distracted. Luckily I snapped out of it as the door would have hit the roof if I hadn't stopped it.

In my experience, many garage door lifters are sensitive to pressure/resistance. Push up on them while they're closing and they reverse automatically. I've never had it hit the car, but I don't think they'd do much damage -- even a lump of compacted snow can cause the door to fail to close -- without damaging the snow lump :-(.

I had the relay in parallel on an older craftman and another offbrand unit (both had 3 button remotes as well)

However i just installed a new Chamberlain HD900 (home depot) with the real fancy wall unit (temp, motion sensor, clock, learn, etc) in addition to the the buttons originally noted. The manual makes a passing reference that you should use wireless wall mount controllers if multiple wall units are required. So I called chamberlain and the guy tried to be helpful but after putting me on hold told me he couldn't be sure i wouldn't fry the wall unit (or the logic board on the motor unit) for sure. ( i could go on but i'll stop at the "this will void your warranty comment"

Anyone wired up the standard relay in parallel with one of these "enhanced" remote controls?

thx in advance

I have a new Liftmaster which has the new style "button" (temp, motion sensor, time, learn, etc.). I connected the relay directly to the contacts on the opener, which should be the same as connecting it to the same two wires on the back of the wall mounted controller.

It's been working great for 4 months now. :P
