Insteon Temp Sensor

Does Insteon have a cost effective means of sensing temperatures. Say Boiler temp, Outside air temp, etc. Can you use a thermistor with the system or an RTD? The M1G is being marketed as a automation system but has no cost effective mean of looking at temp and humidity. I work with commercial DDC systems daily and would really like some means of adding a cost effective temp or humidity sensor (s) to my system.

Thanks

Have you looked at Dallas 1-Wire? I hear it integrates with the Elk using a M1-KAM. Definitely do your research first as I do not know to what extent it can be used. If it's like some of the other Elk integrations (Insteon , Z-Wave) it's sure to not be 100% functional, but still may be useable.

RTD and thermocouple signal conditioners with 4-20mA or 0-10VDC output are available from OmegaEngineering.com for about $200.

If you have the ability to program your own lookup table or equation with the proper mV-to-temperature conversion , you can get away with using a miniature ice point reference for a thermocouple (http://www.omega.com/Temperature/pdf/MCJ.pdf) or with simply measuring the resistance of an RTD and applying the conversion equation (http://www.omega.com/Temperature/pdf/F1500_F2000_F4000.pdf)

You can also use a DMM with thermocouple input (http://www.omega.com/pptst/HHM29.html)

There is also an inexpensive wireless option (http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=UWTC)
