LED Moodlights for Sauna/Steamroom

We were recently at a very nice hotel and they had these LED lights in the ceiling that the wife liked. I told her I would look into it. They sort of look like Christmas tree lights but they slowly change color. I have found sauna's that claim to have LED lights but I can't find a 'kit' that I can put in our bathroom. Anybody have a lead on this?

Not sure exactly what you are looking for but I found THIS on the Home Depot website.

Nope that isn't it. They looked like christmas tree lights spread out on the ceiling to look sort of like stars. They slowly changed color. I suspect that each bulb was really 3 bulbs (rgb) that they used to change colors...

Hi Hucker

Maybe try some diy ;-) Have a look at Gerrys RGBLED Stuff can be controlled by xPL

I made a RGBLED strip for my Bathroom

That is closer. It does what I want but 13 isn't quite enough so I probably would need 2 of these. Then an integration task into my HA stuff might be a pain... So far this solution is in the lead but a bit simpler integration would be nice.

I like those LEDs. I want to install some in the baseboards around the house (hallways and stairs), being able to control the color could have many benefits. If you find a solution that works well for you, please do follow up here, thanks!

If you were in a Hotel you were probably seeing a professional product.

Color Kinetics is one that I was considering for some ambient lighting here and there, kinda pricey though...

I'm interested in what you come up with...but hurry! ;) I'd love some nice mood lighting for our steam shower, but I haven't been able to find anything remotely affordable. One important aspect, of course, is that the enclosure has to be vapor proof.

Hi Chuck

The RGBLED Project has an xPL Interface and also Gerry uses Homevision so since you use both im wondering how you see it could be a pain to implement into your system....????
I also use xPL and Homevision and have no issues with implementing Gerrys RGBLED boards...
It was even made easier recently when Gerry designed a Sequencer Board which allowed you to control his RGBLED Boards without having to have a pc permanently connected......
Also Gerry has a 3 led board which you can connect one of his RGBLED Amos which allows you tto connect many leds....My Bathroom led strip has 11 leds connected to an amp which is connected to one output of Gerrys mRGBLED Boards.....
Also i have just completed another RGBLED Project which allows you to use a small ir remote to send commands to Gerrys Sequencer to initiate Sequences.......This same interface could recieve ir commands from Homevision and pass them onto Gerrys Sequencer.....

I guess you've found them by now, I've seen them for $16 each, they are water proof and can be installed in decks and driveways outside.
The examples I saw are very low power however (0.1 watt).

I haven't found 'em....can you provide a link, or model/brand? Tiling of the shower is about to commence....

Are you sure you were looking at LED's? Were they all the same size, or did they fluctuate at all?

The reason I ask, is we used to put these into high-end swimming pool installs - they had fiber optic systems, and for certain pools with underwater caves, we'd run these into the ceiling.

Basically they're extremely simple - it's strands of fiber optics run right up to the surface, then cut smooth & polished. Then wherever the other end ran, it would put the ends of the fiber optics around a color wheel. There'd be a single light bulb that shines through the color wheel, and a motor driving the color wheel to create the color changing effects.

Basically, something like this:

and I'm sure you could change the twinkle wheel for a color wheel if you wanted.

I haven't dealt with these things in over 10 years, so I don't recall the more common manufacturers, but a search on fiber optic stars brought up a lot of results.

Well, fiber optics is probably going to be beyond my capabilities in routing through a tile ceiling. That's a lot of little holes in tile.

Right now we just have a can light in the middle of the ceiling, and I'll put a dimmer on it for sure, but I was hoping for something just a bit more soothing or interesting.
