"M1 To Go" FREE software download

Elk Products, Inc. has released the "M1 To Go" remote control software for the M1 Security and Automation Controller. This software can run on a PC or be installed on a thumb drive to run from the thumb drive inserted into a PC. It has new graphics and new features.

One big advantage is you do not have to use Java to remotely control your M1.

Since we are not dealers, how does one go about reporting problems? I am using Win7-x64.
1) M12GO crashed the first time using "Local Connect” menu item (port scanning to find my ElkM1). The program now doesn’t seem to crash on subsequent instances.
2) The program refuses to allow me to enter a user-name and password as the dialog ignore keypresses (basically stuck).
3) When using “Local Connect” option, I am not sure which user-id is selected. The profile only allows a, “M1 user code,” to be entered. From a credentials standpoint, the PIN, UserID, and Password are one entity.
4) The “Local Connect” menu item doesn’t detect that a secure connection is required.
5) The On/Off button presses have no feedback. You sort of have to guess.
5) The program doesn’t differentiate between dimmers and switches. The slider can be moved to middle scale for a switch.
6) The UI is fixed size. You have to scroll through all the lights even if you have a good sized screen. At the very least, there should be an option for allowing a small, medium, large screen configuration.

It’s nice to see Elk working toward eliminating Java Applet. Depending on the operating system, browser, and version of Java installed, I could not get the Elk Remote Keypad solution working 100% correctly. Also, I have now disabled Java Applets in my primary browser (due to all the security vulnerabilities).

On subjective note, I would have been nice if Elk upgraded Elk-XEP to include a Web Server along with RichUI capabilities (to handle the "2GO" use case). This would have enabled the largest number of operating systems support.

I use a different port on my firewall and forward that to the Elk. This app seems to just ignore it when I put in my custom port and insists on using the standard Elk ports. I'll let this one bake a while longer and look at it again. In my experience, hardware people write terrible applications, and this one seems to be no exception. Once they get all the problems worked out it may be a nice product. I'll keep an eye on it.

Mine's not very stable either - crashes out pretty often. Also, for some reason, the temperature sensors always show N/A at first until you hit one of the side-to-side arrows, then they show the temp (for both RMS and M12Go).

Thanks for the notice. Did Elk send out an email? I get their emails and I didn't see anything about this.

Installed and ran and it works just fine for me on first try. It sure is waaaay faster than the old java console and a bit nicer layout. Though they don't have very many lights and outputs on each screen. I would like it if they packed in a bit tighter rather than scrolling, especially the lighting.

Also, the lighting doesn't track changes made from outside of the Elk console. Is it supposed to?

As far as tracking, it will track changes made directly to the switch or by direct activation of a switch remotely - but it'll never track changes made via links. I just tested Elk RMS and M1toGo and they both followed along as I changed the light level in my office.

Another note - seems you can't run ElkRMS and Elk M1 to Go on the same computer at the same time.

My mistake. It is tracking lights, I was looking at several scenes which it does not track. That points out a weakness of the elk model in that it can't tell the difference between a scene and a device.

M1 to Go has been up for 18 hours continuously without any glitches. The JAVA console never made it that long on any computer of mine.

I haven't tried an out of network connection yet. It would appear that only port 2601 is needed. True? Does this mean that we no longer need any other ports open?

Has anyone been able to get this to work over the net? I can connect via local network but not over the internet. I have port 2601 forwarded to my elk ip. Should I be doing that?

Nope, can't get mine to work either. Tried using my URL and my IP address. Tried forwarding 2601,26, and 80.

EDIT: And, yes 2601 is the secure port to forward to your Elk. This is the port that all the third party iphone/android stuff works over (and in my case works quite well)

I created a profile named 'Remote' and entered my IP address and not my dyndns URL(realizing this will change periodically by my ISP). I checked the 'Use Secure Connection checkbox', save it and it allows me to login using my standard login which I use with the Elk Keypad through Java.

I do have a weird problem though, if I try to save the remote setup on the same computer, with the Use Secure Connection NOT checked, the main screen will NOT show a cursor for me to login my username and password.

I also loaded this onto the wife's computer which has the same operating system(Windows 7 64-bit) and it will not run via WAN or LAN.

So yes, there are still a few 'quirks' with this new interface, but when it works it is much quicker than the Java based Elk Keypad.

It is not a glitch that you don't have to enter the username and password to login via the LAN. The username/password is only required for the secure connection. If you are inside your LAN, this basically authenticates your computer to the same level that a regular Elk keypad would have (ie entering the code to arm/disarm but allowing many other functions without authentication).

But your success in logging in remotely I am not having. What ports did you forward? Perhaps a firewall issue?
