M1XEP Network sees it but SEND/RECIEVE & Reboot buttons are grayed out

Just as the title says it. M1XEP Network sees it but SEND/RECEIVE & Reboot buttons at the bottom of the setup window are grayed out. The only two buttons on the bottom that work are FIND & CLOSE. Cannot send or receive to the M1XEP. The M1XEP setup does find the M!XEP with the correct MAC address and ip. I have tried the FIND and manually entered the ip info. Pinged the ip and it responds with zero losses.

I have tries multiple crossover and straight cable with two computers. Still no go.

I am bench testing the rig with two keypads and M1XEP connected before it installed. Terminating Jumpers only on the two keypads.

Any idea what could be causing it. Thanks

Have you actually fully CONNECTED to the M1 (by clicking 'Connection' then 'Network')?

You can get to the XEP menu (and make changes), but those buttons won't be available (and thus changes won't be implemented) unless you are connected to the M1, and those commands can be used to exchange the information with the panel.

Yes I did try (by clicking 'Connection' then 'Network'). It comes back with Comm Error. "System did not respond.Connection may have been terminated".

I tried enrolling the xep using the keypad. I was getting an error."Key Addr >1 Lost Comm"
Then I read on one of the forum that it did not need to be enrolled?

A bit confused.

I don't know about using it without it being enrolled. I set mine up a little over a month ago, and followed the manual w/o any issues ;)

Regarding enrollment, see page 6, Step 4 of the XEP installation manual (specifically the bolded note). Unfortunately, this would be about as far as my troubleshooting could go, so if this doesn't resolve the problem, hopefully someone else will chime in...

Enrollment is required and the globals must be set correctly as indicated above.

I'm going to assume that post #8 is an indication that you have completed these steps. In that case, it sounds like your connection between the ELKM1G and the M1XEP is bad. Check for bent pins, damaged conductors, and full engagement of the connectors.

When RP Finds the XEP on the LAN is the IP address compatible with other devices? Have you tried a direct serial connection using the provided serial cable? This would rule out the cable and serial port on the M1. Also from the keypad in Globals G34 --- it must be set to 9=115200. When using a crossover cable make sure to follow the instructions on the bottom of page 25 to make sure the XEP is at 192.168.0.251 and your computer is set to 192.168.0. <something other than .251>

Hi Brad,

The ip adress is compatible with other devices. Its static @ 192.168.1.144. I have tried serial from M1 to a laptop and works without any issues. That rules the serial port on the M1 out.The Global G34 is set to 9 @ 115200. I have even tried opening the ports 2101,2601,2362. Still no go.
Does the M1XEP need to be enrolled using keypad? Conflicting information on that as well.

Also I tried enrolling the xep using the keypad. I was getting an error."Key Addr >1 Lost Comm"

Thanks a bunch.

Turns out the RS232 Flat ribbon cable was defective. Luckily I happen to order a spare one. Also the "Key Addr >1 Lost Comm" error is normal when you enroll a device. It pops up for a split second and then goes away. Thought I'd share.

Thanks.

Glad you found your issue... I didn't even use that cable because it wasn't long enough for my installation, so I made my own (didn't care for the ribbon cable either).

Even though the address is typed into the XEP setup page, the M1G doesn't "know" that's the address because you haven't yet 'SENT' the configuration to the M1... hence the buttons you mentioned are greyed out. Once you establish the connection, you can send the XEP configuration info to the M1.

Also, the ports 2101 (I wouldn't open this personally, but that's another discussion), 2601, 2362, etc are only for connecting from an external network.
