Magnetic Locks with HAI

Hello,
Has anyone used magnetic locks and the HAI card reader on a commercial scenario?
I know that in PA you need to forms of egress.
I have someone that is looking to do a single door and a mag lock is the only option.

Thanks,

Joe

A REX motion and a pneumatic button, break glass or latching emergency button that breaks power to the lock itself would satisfy this. They only require 2 forms in the remote chance the electronic portion (REX) fails. Usually they do prefer a FACP to drop the power with the egress button as the last resort. You are NOT allowed to drive inputs into the panel to tell the system to unlock.

Since the HAI is not commercial FA rated, I'm not going there, but if there is a FACP on site, then your power supply should have a fire drop input OR you can connect to the FACP via an addressable module (break power at door) or via a dry contact on the FACP (if available) and pull cabling appropriately.

Not really difficult. The panel makes no difference, the door hardware and ancillary equipment should be able to perform what is needed and the panel is only the controlling factor that is determining when the door unlocks on a valid read, code entry, whatever....

Different AHJ's have different opinions on Maglocks and how to release them in the event of an emergency. That's where you should start first.

Most of the work in PA that I have seen usually consists of a REX motion to break the mag power and trip the rex circuit on the card access system or other system.

Also, at the door there is usually a button or other release mechanism. I know that Air Bladder release buttons have been acceptable in most locations I have seen. They have an adjustable delay so the if you hit the button the door remains unlocked for a period of time based on the set time delay.

Tieing the mag power in to a fire system release (If one exists) is also a good idea and a requirement in most areas.

We do everything we can to stay away from Maglocks.

Edit:

DEL, you beat me to it...
