Man implants RFID chip for automation purposes

Someone decided to have a small RFID chip implanted into his left hand. He plans to equip his house with RFID sensors, as well as his car. The RFID tag is read-only, and only has a range of 2". Check the below URL for pictures, video and more information.

I knew it would get attention if I phrased it that way

On the other hand (no pun intended), I would be willing to do the same thing if I knew for sure it would be compatible with most HA/RFID systems out there

Chip implants? Hmm, don't you think that you might be in for a "painful" upgrade at some time in the future?

That's the only reason I wouldn't do this

I am pretty sure that the chip this guy implanted won't be compatible with i.e. the iAutomate RFID system that is being tested with HS right now. But a band-aid approach might work here (stick another chip on top with a band-aid)
