motion and occupency

Hi,

I've been working on my project for a while and will need some advise.

I want to detect presence in rooms of my house for automation purpose. I would also like to detect movement in the halleway and stairs for the same purpose.

I'm thinking of installing a bunch of these for the each end of the halleways. I would also install them in the stair case.
SPY1 - Visonic Spy 1 PIR Motion Detector Long Range

or
SPY4 - Visonic Spy 4 PIR Motion Detector Curtain
http://www.aartech.ca/spy4-visonic-spy-4-pir-motion-detector-curtain.html

On top of that, I'm thinkling about installing some of these in each room:
0-1111-0 - Visonic DISC Ceiling Mount 360 Degree PIR Motion Detector
http://www.aartech.ca/0-1111-0-visonic-disc-ceiling-pir-motion-detector.html

I already have contact on every openings (Doors, windows, closets, etc.)

I currently have not bought the controller yet. It will be a EKL or HAI. I just want to put all the sensors in place as I have most walls open for wireing.

My main concern is: Are these sensors good or should I look at other products?

I'm also open to any suggestion for detection motion in the house for automation purpose.

PS: I'm planning this wiht the assumption that the more event I can capture the more I can automate and control the environment.

I use the BLRadar plugin with HomeSeer and the inexpensive X10 motion sensors scattered throughout the house. This allows me to control room lighting, detect home occupancy which can then be used to arm/disarm alarms, turn tstats up/down,etc. The devices you posted should do this but better if they cover the area throughly. The big question is what do you want to do with the data?

I'm trying to plan for a total house automation experience. I want to appropriate music, light and confort in every room based on certain condition.

I've planned for a Nuvo Concerto for my music, UPB for the lights, lutron Sivoia QS for motorized shades and want to install a software automation (CQC or Homeseer) for advance control like irrigation based on weather forecast, etc.

I want to detect the presence close to the entrance outdoor to tunr on light as needed, I want the light to turn off and on automatically as needed.

I still need to find appropriate sensor for the outside lights and sensors for weather conditions. Outside camera systems and monitoring also need ot be looked at.

To get back to the main topic, Presence detection I would like to monitor people in the house to provide them with a enjoyabe living experience.

Examples.
1- Wake-up ambiance: Shade goes up, proper music or news start to play or tv goes on on news channel, if dark outside light dim up but if no one in the room ignore the schedule event.

2- I get up at night light dim up, I go to the bathroom, halleway dim up and as I get in the bathroom light aslo dim up. Process is reversed when I get back to bed.

3- When I go up or down stairs I wan to LED light along the stairs to follow me (kind of either by timer or pure motion detection) like this example

This is few of many situation I want to automate.

While I'm at it. I'm still looking also for RFID sensor to cover each room individually. My goal is to monitor my 90 pounds dog when she goes around not to trigger events/alarms. I'll most likely start an other post when I get there.

The title of your post makes me think there may be some confusion... Motion detectors and occupancy sensors are not the same thing. Motion detectors do just that -- they detect motion. They will not detect a person who is stationary, e.g., asleep. An occupancy sensor will detect a person's presence whether they are moving or not (as long as the person is within line of sight of the sensor).
