Mounting Satellite Dishes

I've ordered two CommDeck mounts, one for the rural internet and one for the satellite dish. The rural internet needs to mount as high as possible. How about the satellite dish? Most seem to be mounted under the garage eaves, but my wife thinks it will look better mounted on the roof. Are there any practical reasons to mount under the eaves rather than on a 6/12 roof?

We're at 52 degrees north.

Depending on your home, it's orientation, under the eave can be less conspicious. It also protects the dish from high winds which can tweek it's alignment.

My home is in the woods with very tall trees. The house too is tall, but even with the dish at the top of the roof, it's still barely able to get clear sight of the satellite so I had no choice but to put it on the very top of the roof. Now, I currently have a 40 ft ladder propped on the side of the house to get access to the dish that now needs realignment due to some high winds that is preventing me from getting the expensive HD channels I subscribe to.

So, your timing is impecible.

I say form follows function!

Remember the dish will operate better with a clear line of sight to the bird/birds. I have 2 failed professional installs on my roof. I wouldn't trust an installer as far as I can throw them.

Find the birds, find the best line of sight and install it there.

Where would you prefer to go to clear it off during/after the blizzard? If I ever transition from cable, my dish will be mounted on a pole next to the house. A very short pole.

Mine is mounted on the foundation, about 2' off the ground.
It's very easy to clear the snow after a storm. And I have only twice had to clear the snow in front because it was piling up too high.
