new construction pre-wire

Great responses so far! I especially like the idea of a second magnet on the window to keep them open and still armed, as there is a seconday lock on the window that allows you to keep them open a crack.

Would this magnet be sufficient? It looks like it is thin enough, and 10mm is just a hair bigger than 3/8":

In my old home I installed a "doggy" door with a secondary lock on the sliding glass door / did something for the alarm (don't recall details). I would always remove the doggy door and fully lock the sliding glass door before leaving the house for extended periods of time...

I have Anderson windows and my LV pre-wire contractor just drilled through the plastic window frames for the recessed sensors. I think the key point is not to drill into the window sash itslef which is a bit more sensitive and can mess up your class if you do it wrongly.

The frame is just a frame. Nothing much can go wrong it it...I think the window supplier will be hard pressed to make a case that you drilling in the window frame causes an issue with the glass in the sash.

My window sashes had little screwholes in the bottoms. A small magnet with the right size screw and it was all done.

I have heard of people just running the wire and then driller and fishing it out...i haven't tried it myself..but i don't like the idea. You will save SOOOOO much time just putting the sensor in right away.

If you take the window out and look at the bottom, hopefully you will see an area on the side that is "clear" of hitting the glass area.
