New Direct Tivo Offer

Just noticed that Direct TV is offering an upgrade to the new Direct Tivo. I would only be interested in the new Tivo and not really anything else at this time. We still have the old Direct Tivo SD. (plus cable and OTA HD).

Is it worth the upgrade?

We've been Direct Tivo customers now for about 20 years.

Its more for my wife who is addicted to her Tivos (we still have a legacy SA and Direct Tivo running).

Personally I could care less whether the Tivo is playing back HD or SD as I really don't watch it and she's more into the content than the HD versus SD stuff.

I was looking a bit and really just wanting to keep the monthly invoicing the same; not sure if I can do that though?

Pete,

are you out of contract? if you are, you can easily get dtv to deal, especially if you tell them you're thinking of switching. i did that all the time at the end of my 1 year term. one time they gave us 2 of the original directivo, no cost, no monthly fee for a year. most of the time it was showtime/hbo free for 3 months, starz for 6 months. the last time around, when i really wanted to cancel, they gave us 6 months free service which became 9 months when i called after the 6 months. after 9 months, they didn't want to deal & i finally was able to cancel :P and if the cs rep doesn't want to deal, call back later. you will find someone who will. we had dtv for about 15 years.

Yes Damage. Never changed anything here in the newer home from the older home; just moved it.

Right now all I've done is updated the power supplies on the Tivos when they failed.

I'm looking to just update the wife's Tivo and keep the same monthly pricing; nothing extra really. Its just one Direct Tivo DVR and 3 sat boxes. (have cable and OTA HD - no DVR other than the SA Tivo).

This morning online tried the chat thing...and didn't really get any reponses to my questions from the CS at all. Kind of a worthless effort.

When I was canceling the DTV in Florida to switch to FIOS; DTV did offer some months of service for free if I wanted when I spoke to the CS. There its simple with no DVR service and just three boxes. Rates though have gone up maybe 30 percent now from installation time. (still doing the phone, cable and internet deal).

Wow - I waited YEARS for that stupid thing to come out... I held out with the SD receivers for so long... until this house where I really wanted the multi-room DVR... can't believe they left that out. Has anyone found out if it's capable of *any* sort of sharing, like the native Tivo sharing, copying to a PC, or anything like that?
