Wow, what's with all the negativity in this thread? Elk announce a new firmware release like they have for years and they get blasted because every feature and upgrade ever asked for is not in it? I have to say, this is very 'anti CocoonTech' behavior. Elk is still a relatively small company and I'm sure they have to prioritize projects like everyone else. Also, I'm sure Elk, like many other companies have been burned by pre announcing things then getting nailed when something happens and dates slip, so they all are going to a practice of not announcing things until they are ready. Who knows, Elk may have a whole slew of new things ready to be announced at any time? I don't know, it's just weird to see this reaction to Elk.
And I also have to comment on:
And what model is that, a Beta discussion thread on the CQC forums? Are you saying customers don't have alot of input to Elk? It seems from the replies in this thread alone there has been alot of input to Elk. And see what's coming? Yes, Dean does talk about new stuff and ideas far in advance sometimes. But what if it never happens? What if the feature talked about turns out to not be what somebody wants? And there are many things that make it on the 'list' but get bumped sometimes for years because of constantly changing priorities. A great example is the ability to 'pause' a driver so you don't have to remove it and reinstall it just to use the serial port (like for running UpStart when the UPB driver is loaded, or Nuvo config software when the Nuvo driver is loaded, etc). This is no different.
I use both M1 and CQC and could easily complain about things in both, but as a whole they are great and I love and recommended them both.
So why don't we all take it a little easy on these guys, bitching about features that didn't make it into a given release is not going to get it there any faster. The last thing I want and I'm sure you want is David/Spanky (or any mfg) to say the hell with CocoonTech which I'm sure is a thought that would cross his mind when reading through this thread.
