New OpenSource HA Software? (Ago Control - possible from LinuxMCE devs)

Just added it to my list of software to add to the home automation list.

Took a quick look at the site, but it doesn't show screenshots, etc.  Obviously a work in progress, I just hope it will be easier to install so it won't scare away Linux-newbies.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks, just added the screenshots to the database.

It has a lot of potential, but I hope they get help when it comes to designing nice flowing layouts.  I'll be watching it myself.

Hello, I am one of the core developers of LinuxMCE.

AgoControl was started by one of our developers, when he wanted a much simpler system to implement for embedded applications that were not necessarily always within the scope of a home automation framework. As such, AgoControl is a complete rewrite of the entire system using Apache's AMQP messaging implementation, and as such, they have a small and usable system at present.

It is not LinuxMCE, will not be LinuxMCE's replacement, as LinuxMCE's original goals have been well stated and were met. Now it's a matter of refining what LinuxMCE is, presenting a better user interface, support for more hardware, and refining the overall experience. We are still doing this, we never stopped, we just haven't been public about it.

In the end, use whichever solution fits best, there will be development man power on both. If you want a system that aims to unify everything in a home, use LinuxMCE, if you want a solid, and lightweight home automation solution, use AgoControl.

hey Thom,

Welcome to CocoonTech, and thanks for the clarification, it does clear up some confusion.
