OmniPro Communication Failure

New install.  Latest hardware.

Main controller and 5 expansion boxes.  One consoles.  Several OmniTouch 7s.

All working perfectly for weeks.
One day the the console started beeping and displayed " No Controller Data"  Everything fine on communication with expansion boxes.  No time to mess with it, unplugged the console and everything else worked.
1 week later the controller cannot comm with any of the expansion boxes.  I separate out the runs and find I can connect to #4 or #5 individually or together, but cannot connect to #1 or #2 or #3.
Spoke to HAI, did a diode test (ok), they figured it was a bad controller and offered and exchange.... new board does the same thing!

Help?

First, are you sure HAI didn't give you the same board back?  Did you record the serial numbers?

Its strange how it works then it doesn't.  Are you sure the comm wires are all fine?  Not being pinched between a beam, for example?  I can't say this will fix it but it never hurts to perform a full reset of the board then reinstall the data. I'm assuming you have dealer PC Access?  Last, just double check the expansion board setup in the panel.

Thanks for the thoughts. It is a different board, I did an anvance exchange through my dealer.

The odd thing is it worked fine for weeks. The three exp boxes that don't work are in the old part of the house. Existing wiring seems fine. No construction in the house. I'm wondering if it could be some sort of a ground issue? All of my panels are grounded to the electrical outlets.

Have you tried moving expansion boards #1, #2 and #3 back to the main controller and connecting through a short cable?  If that works, it would point to the wiring to the remote location as a likely source of the problem.

Been helping a peer here with an Elk that has been fine for years.  He configured a  finished guest area (not part of the main house) over the years and never used it.    He has been getting false alarms now after about 2-3 years of stability.  He also has found mice droppings there.  Personally I would think that mice would not eat alarm cables.

Years ago discovered mice like some forms of insulation on cables. Seems to be more of the rubber on test leads, but I suspect they will chew on them in some cases, or if trying to get through the wires to get to something else.
