Many years ago (late 1990's/early 2000's) did utilize HS primarily for lighting. I had a PC HW failure right before a two week vacation sometime in the early 2000's and scrambled a bit but had HS running before I left.
I think this is what made me shift my primary lighting control over to the OPII. I migrated over to using an OPII when I moved to the current home about 6 years ago. Previous to this I had installed a multizone with TTS alarm panel in the 80's and it had worked well for me.
The second HW failure that occurred happening just after Christmas in 2009 (so lifespan on this box was about 6 years or so - bad caps). With this endeavor I've built a second duplicate HS server as a failover. It is not automated so it wouldn't have done anything for me in 2009. In retrospect two HS HW failures in about 10 years isn't all that bad though.
