Omnipro II UPB Trouble

I just installed my first round of Simply Automated UPB switches. I have successfully programmed these switches using UpStart but I can't seem to get my controller to recognize I have an HAI PIM and therefore it can't see any of my switches. I have selected the serial port to be UPB but what else am I missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Good morning and Happy New Year to you swamiller. Welcome to CT.

There is a happy bunch of CT users here along with much information relating to using the HAI products and said UPB stuff on the forum. You are at the right place.

That said if I have not posted correct information or have skipped something someone will most likely chime in as we are all friends (in a virtual way) here.

Easy to configure you UPB PIM to your HAI panel.

Look first in Upstart and write these numbers down:

1 - Network ID
2 - Network Password
3 - Nework Name - for your own reference
4 - UPB switch number (Unit ID) of the specific UPB switch that you want to connect and test with.

Shut down Upstart and go to the HAI PC Access application

1 - Got to setup
2 - Got to Units
3 - Got to Dealer settings
4 - configure UPB Network address such that it matches the one from Upstart
5 - configure UPB Network password such that it matches the one from Upstart
6 - goto expansion
7 - got to serial
8 - the ports are left to right numbered. Make sure that you have configured the serial port you are using for UPB/9600 baud
9 - go to units
10 - add your first UPB switch by configuring the unit number such that it matches the Upstart Unit ID that you are using. (House code format then number).
11 - save it and upload the configuration to your panel. Then go to status and unit and try turning on your UPB switch or light module.

Pete, thank you for the warm welcome and your help!

Ok, I think I'm getting somewhere now. It didn't work at first so I reset the units I had set up and the controller then was able to see them and control them.

Thanks you so much for helping me with such a basic question!

If the ones previously set up weren't seen by the controller but are after setup mode, that sounds like you have a conflict and both aren't using the same network ID and password. They should all be able to see each other simultaneously.

Thanks W2P! I figured out that I was naming the units incorrectly.

On a related note, is there a way to directly import the naming assigned to each unit via Upstart directly to OP2?

Names don't matter. You can have different names in Upstart and HAI. Only the network and unit id's matter. If you want to use them in HLC mode, you'll also need to program the links to the HAI standard. There are several documents in the HAI knowledge base regarding this.

Thanks JonW.

So now I have everything functioning ok with the exception that my unit status isn't updating in my controller. The controller shows all units as "ON" until I action the unit through the controller.

Is there a refresh or "polling" setting or program I need to put in place so the status mirrors the actual unit status?

You need to follow the HLC method of unit & link allocation. The status & polling will then work automatically.
