Problem sending emails with M1XEP

Glad I could help, but I have to give the credit to this forum for helping me when I was going through my multi-week ordeal of trying to get my M1XEP E-mail functioning.

As far as forwarding my Lavabit E-mail, I thought I read somewhere(I could be wrong), that Lavabit would disable E-mail accounts which did not show any activity over a 30 day window. My auto-forwarding the Lavabit 'heartbeat' E-mail seems to keep my account active.

The way i have it set up, the XEP uses the lavabit to send emails. So if you set up the message forwarding, it would never forward any messages, unless you reply to the elk messages (sent via lavabit)?

You can see the messages in your lavabit web access, but without forwarding they wouldnt necessarily go to where you can see them *easily* (i.e. Gmail or Exchange account on your smartphone, etc). The forwarding just sends a copy to a more easily accessible mailbox.

And yeah, not sure whats up with the Elk and not resolving hostnames for email servers. Im not connected right now but if I go into RP and check the M1EXP settings, I notice it defaults DNS server addresses to 0.0.0.0....it might be because Im not connected though. Id be interested to see if you hardcode them to something public (like Google's DNS server addresses) if it then resolves the mail server hostname.

After I followed the how-to linked in this thread my automated emails have worked perfectly so I see no need to muck with the settings (maybe if someday Lavabit changes their server IP Ill have an issue, but Im guessing there will be at least on thread on this board from other people with the same issue!)

I still don't see this email forwarding thing. I have the XEP send me an email directly to my yahoo account and I get them. I set up forwarding on Lavabit but it will only forward if the lavabit account receives an email. I guess you have it set up so that XEP sends and email from your lavabit account to your lavabit account and then it forwards it out? I guess that would maintain the account.

You setup forwarding from your yahoo account.

Xep delivers mail to yahoo, yahoo forwards it to another

Still not getting this. the XEP can send email to any email account, using the designated email account, in my case Lavabit. I am using Lavabit as an outgoing email server only. What is the point of forwarding from the receiving email account? Second, many people have indicated the need to forward from the OUTgoing email server. This is what i don't understand. It was mentioned as a way to keep the account active? Has anyone had issues with the Lavabit shutting down an account if there is only outgoing email?

Thanks.

Non issued with lavabit.. They are rock solid, in my opinion.

The need to forward is simply because RP software only allows 15 email slots.

If you find the need to send email to multiple users, and not needing to use up the 15 slots, forwarding saves a (rule). Slot

I know this thread is old but lavabit has closed. I wonder if anyone figured out the current working email solution?

I too have an issue now.  My XEP has been flawless for 3 years with email alerts and a few days ago it quit.  I have not made any changes.  When I test email in RP it times out and disconnects.  However I downloaded the ELK XEP diagnostics tool and using the test email tool in that it works fine so I am at a loss.  I use SMTP2 go and use port 2525 and it has been working fine. rebooted my xep, M1 router etc and no changes.  Seems odd that using the test utility it works but not in RP and not during normal operation.  Anyone have that issue?

Bet your ISP started blocking ports.

Have you portscaned from outside of your LAN? Have you port forwarded the XEP to a different port?

Remember, the XEP tool is only on the LAN, not the WAN.

I did consider that and talked two different techs at FIOS and they swore they did not block port 2525.  I have tried all the ports that SMTP 2 go uses and no luck.  I did try CANYOUSEEME.org and it says it can't get to 2525 but it seems odd to me that when I used the ELK xep diagnostic program to test emails it works and I get the email.  But within RP and under normal operation I don't get them that is the part that is odd.

Think about it....your XEP and the PC you are using the tool on are on the same LAN....only going through a router or switch, not leaving to go through the WAN. I'm assuming you're using the tool and the PC on the same LAN and not a WAN....like sending the test to an outside item, like a smartphone-only email address.

If CYSM can't hit the port, it's not open.

Try to hit the port from the WAN and not via the LAN...like through an air card or tethered smartphone.

DEL:  Yeah I am in over my head here.  I guess I don't understand how the whole XEP works then. I assumed that even if I used the tool on my LAN to initiate the test that once the test occured i.e. sent the test email it is still going out through the router to WAN to the SMTP server and then back to my email address.  If you are saying the test is just sending me email via my LAN I don't even see how that is possible because when I email myself I actually send it to an ATT wireless number so it sends me a text to my phone.  It works with the XEP diagnostic tool i.e. I get the text on my phone but will not work when I use RP to test it or just normal alert from the ELK.  I am assuming the XEP diagnostic tool still has the ELK use the port specified in the XEP setup and uses the email server I have specified right?

So am I totally ignorant here on how the who thing works?

Are you clicking on the TEST button on the M1XEP Setup Email tab?

Is ELK RP2 disconnected when you try an operational test?

If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then there is something wrong with your setup.  Post a pic of your M1XEP Setup Email tab and your ELK M1XEP Setup TCP/IP tab.  You can fuzz out the user names and password on the Email tab.  Or you can describe exactly what you have in each box.
