It's UPB Pim, PIM-R from PCS I believe. I'm running my automation server as a vm on an esxi box other wise I wouldn't be to concerned with making this work. Well that and I have two of those Quatech boxes from the hot deals thread earlier this year. Haven't run into any issues using them with anything else so far.
I don't have a PCS PIM or I would give it a test. Try giving the Device manager / communications port / port settings / advanced setting for com port/receive/transmit buffers a tweek in your VM client. Are you getting CRC errors or what? BTW I had issues with the Quatech boxes as received and updated firmware and that seemed to fix many issues with the box. (the firmware update is old but most current - one on the boxes I purchased was very old and a rev or two prior to "current").
I have 1 USB SA UPB PIM, RS-232 SA UPB PIM and one HAI RS-232 UPB PIM on line. So far I've been able to get everything serially to work (18 plus) via VM/Quatech/Digi sans the USB sound card and the USB WaytoCall box. Just purchased a two port USB-LAN Lantronix box(a couple of days ago). Its a a two USB port Lantronix (discontnued - phased out) for $114 and going to give this a try.
When I tried to use a Simply Automated serial CIM on the serial port of a Global Cache GC100 it did not work. I spoke to tech support of another brand of GC100 like device - they said the problem was the SA CIM draws some power from the serial port and the GC100 could not supply enough.
What would be the easiest way to do this? Splice it from a pc power supply? Looks like quatech now offers a version of the QSE-100D with 5v for powering external devices. (lol not that it helps unless I want to buy a new one for 12 times what this one set me back)
