Programming HAI OMNI II from controller board from scratch

I have a HAI OMNI that just died on me and is not repairable. I was told that by HAI that all the new Omni boards are compatible with all keyboards and accessories that I currently own but would not tell me how to do the initial setup once I buy a new one. I am looking for any help or manuals on how to program the controller board from the initial setup. All my wires are labeled and still hooked up to the Omni Plug and play wire harness so I can just plug them into the new board. I know that I have see mention to using a serial cable but am not sure if you program using a browser or UNIX application. Detailed instructions would be great.

So I am guessing you had an installer install this system or did you inherent it from a past home owner? In any case, its much probably easier to replace than you think. If you have model OTHER than an Omni LT, and the board is still current (not Omni Pro I vs II) then replacing it is rather easy. The black terminal strips actually pull off the board, so you remove the strips, replace the board and reinstall the strips and your done. Pretty cool actually.

Programming is pretty easy, and you get full instructions when you buy the new board, or just Google Omni Pro II user guide OR installation guide, or whatever model you have and you will find it.

If you did have an installer put in the system, he likely has a copy of your settings and its easy to replace. If you don't have an installer, you can buy a simple program called PC Access to program the panel via serial port or Ethernet. If your alarm is monitored, you might need to call the monitoring company to get some settings, like phone number, but that's about it.

Also, you may want to find out what killed you old panel. Usually its lightning and grounding is not correct. If you replace the board, be sure to check the grounding.

Yes that is correct I inherited the system from a past owner and got it working and now the board has died. Also the company that did the install in 1997 is out of business. What I can tell looking at the board it is a Omni 10A100-1 which I am thinking I was going to replace with a used OMNI II. I will take a picture of my board and post and see if it is compatible to put into a newer board. If not from what you are saying starting from scratch is not to painful.

Yeah, that sounds like an older model that probably isn't made anymore. You could replace it with a Omni LT, Omni IIe or Omni Pro II depending on your needs, but you will likely need to disconnect and reattach each wire one by one. It should be bad, but you may need to upgrade your keypads. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. If you just want an alarm panel, the Ademco ones are cheaper, but if you want home automation, the HAI ones are a good choice.

Can I ask why I would have to reattach each wire to the new OMNI board? Looking at my board and the newer boards all the info for each terminal is the same plus I was told by HAI that the wire terminal that I unplugged fits all models. I guess I am pretty much only using this as a security alarm since I only care that my fire alarms, glass breakers, motion sensors and beepers on door work. Is Ademco pretty compatible with my current keypads or are you stating to just purchase all new with the Ademco system.
